Experience of our fellow Salibandiens

Contact 3 vs 3. When being told about this competition, I was very excited as this would be another chance to play floorball with other good players and to gain experience. Besides, it would also be a chance for our club to measure ourselves as how far we had improved. But most importantly, it’s for the excitement and fun as we all love this beautiful game. Our team consists of Andrew Yeap, Kushsal, Deswyn and me.

During the training sessions for this competition, it was quite stressful as we weren’t able to perform as expected. There wasn’t much preparation also. Anyway, we still went to Penang for the competition with high expectation of at least getting a medal. Trusting in each of our players, we know that we can do well together as a team.

Finally, the match day has arrived; the moment that we had been eagerly waiting for. That morning before the match, Deswyn and I went out for breakfast and we ate Hokkien Mee. Thank God we didn’t have stomach ache during the matches. It was kind of unexpected because as we arrived, we found out that we will be the 1st team to play. We didn’t even manage to warm up properly before the match.

Our 1st match was against Alive.

They were just kids but they were able to beat us in penalties after drawing 2-2.(shows that size does not matter, it’s the heart that matters ) All respect to them! Although we were feeling down after the defeat, we still encourage one another as there is still chance to reach the final as long as we don’t lose again.

The second match was totally different. We scored 6-0 in that match. We then begin to have confident and started to have the momentum of the game. Although it was very tense as all the teams that we played against was very good, we also had some moment of laughter when one of our player, Kush, ran all the way up and hit away the opponent’s ball even though the game hasn’t started after the ball went out of play. It was hilarious and an embarrassing for our team. Haha!!! And as for me, I experienced my first 2 minutes being sent out after a foul play. Thanks to my teammates, they still manage to defend the ball and we won that match.

The feeling after winning every match is amazing. As we all put in 100% effort and determination into the game. Winning in the final was even more amazing. All four of our players scored in the final match against Ztec 8cers Beta. The reason of us winning this competition is the teamwork that we have. We passed the ball around and supported each other in the game.

Traveling all the way from Selangor to Penang was tiring. But it was worth it as the food in Penang is so so good and delicious. My favorite is the Asam Laksa. That night after the competition, we went to Gurney Drive to eat dinner and then went to the beach to relax and to talk about floorball and girls…

It’s a great experience for me to play in this competition. I’ve learned a lot from the players and also manage to make some new friends. As this is Salibandy! Co first gold medal, there will be more to come in the future. Floorball is our passion!

The History of Innebandy! Co.(2003-2008)

The Founder(s)

Floorball was introduced in Penang by Edward Lim who caught the vision of the game when he was in Hong Kong for a sports conference. From then on, the game was introduced first to churches and to youth groups around Penang. Youth Impact was one of the many youth groups which adopted floorball.

Yean May (our Youth pastor then) was really supportive in this area of ministry, so we got our very first own club sticks and a few balls to kick off this game. Our brother Lin Ken was the first person from youth impact who tasted floorball. From then on, there were no regrets and turning back for him and for some of us. (you know what I’m talking bout rite?hehe)

The Genesis

With our new equipments and all, we’re ready to start our own club. We recruited as many youths as we could from Youth Impact (coolest youth group ever!) and the club was managed by Uncle Jason Yeap. He is one manager who has high commitment towards our club and we really appreciate his time, sweat and breath on us, punks.haha. We first trained at the outdoor open basketball court, our first home ground was Beng Teik basketball court and there’s no doubt that the flooring sucks BUT we really had lots of fun trying hard to control the ball and 99% of us can’t even manage to score an open goal. And I mean really OPEN with no one blocking. That was hilarious but that was fun! Coach Jason Selva was the one that give us our first ever floorball lesson which includes “Which is the right stick for you, How to hold your stick correctly, how to do a ball control and others”.

The Identity

With our newly established club, it’s time to have our own identity, name, jersey, code of conduct, training programs, you name it. Blazing Eagles was what we were called in our early days of floorballing. We had a logo with an eagle surrounded by a circle of flames around it. It was pretty cool =) We had our first jersey (t-shirt) which was sponsored by G.A Blue and that was what we wore for our first ever Floorball tournament, Youthwave Floorball Tournament 2004.

In year 2006 we had a little change in the club which has transformed Blazing Eagles forever. Previously our trainings and all are supervised by adults but now, we’re on our own without any adult supervision and it was really really hard in the beginning. There were so many things that we didn’t know how to do without them and that really affect me a lot. Fortunately we have some ‘adults’ which are ready to take up this challenge and they did a pretty good job! Excellent I would say. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sam, Nicholes, Lin Ken for their endless support and dedication that has impacted the floorball scene in our club.

We have a new identity, and we’re no longer called Blazing Eagles. We are called Innebandy! Co. I think you can read the meaning of the name in Innebandy/Salibandy’s friendster. Everything is different now, we have new sets of coaches, new sets of rules, new sets of jerseys and we are ready to take on the world!

The Subsidiary

We are proud to be the first club in Penang and Malaysia to have a sub club out of our state. Salibandy!Co is established in 2006 as I (Deswyn.haha) had to pursue my education in KL and I didn’t wanted to stop playing the game. So with the help of CF in TARC, we managed to get a group of enthusiastic players and they really got hooked on to the game. Without any state of the art equipments or courts, didn’t stop us from playing Floorball. Whether it rains or shines, the game still goes on. The passion that has been shown here has encourage me tremendously and I’m proud of the floorballers over here.

The player(s)

What is Floorball without the players? What is winning without teamwork? Players in Inne as well as Sali has grown from zero to heroes. WE really started off like anyone of you who just started playing Floorball, no doubt about it. All players have shown their dedication and passion in their game and have really trained hard to be where they are now. Most of us come from the same Church and that gives us an advantage as we are closer to one another. I believe in team spirit, trusting and having faith in our teammates and that is what I like about team sports. We learn from one another, we have fun together, we train together, we run together, we play together, we tease one another, we encourage one another, we win as one, we lose as one and WE are INNEBANDY!Co. From the bottom of my heart, I am proud to be part of Innebandy and I’m really really proud to have teammates like YOU, from the youngest to the eldest, from the smallest to the biggest, from the beginners to the pros. Keep up the passion!
