What she has to say...

If you knew my story, you would probably say I’m crazy or too daring. Yet here I am, telling you one of my most amazing experience in floorball to you.=) But firstly, there are 2 people I would like to thank. Firstly, God. Who made all things possible, that I’m here to tell you about my game; and the 2nd person is CuiLin. If it wasn’t her, I wouldn’t have signed up for PTPY Challenge (Play In A Team, Play For Yourself).

I have been studying in Sabah for a year and since then, I haven’t been going for any floorball training. And believe me or not, PTPY was the first time I held my floorball stick after a year of “floorbal-less”. Haha! The night before PTPY, I seriously thought of not going for it the next day. As you guys know floorball is not an individual game. It is a game where if one of your team player doesn’t push hard enough, it will jeopardize your whole team and there goes your game! And even though PTPY stands for Play In A Team, PLAY FOR YOURSELF, no matter what, I’m representing Innebandy! Co. How I play in the court is a reflection of how our floorball club is. I wasn’t ready to let Innebandy nor my team players down. So the next day, before I head for PTPY, I said to God, “If you’ve brought me here, then bring me through it.” And God was faithful. =)

PTPY was a good way to improve one’s skills and to know one’s strengths and weaknesses. Playing with different people in each game allows you to communicate more with your team players and learn to be more flexible in your positions because you cannot be forever in defense or forward position. And tell you a secret: I wasn’t able to score any goals during PTPY. (Don’t laugh ok? You have to know I haven’t been playing for a year. Haha!) However, like what I’ve mentioned, God was faithful. I wasn’t that good in forward position but I gave my very best. After first 3 games, I got back to what I do best – defending. And from the first round til the very end, I had the highest points among the other girls. I didn’t do this on my own ‘cause I knew I couldn’t. But God’s fingerprints were found everywhere that day. From changing my group number (I was actually E4 but became E5 – the luckiest number ‘cause I get to play in a team with good players) to being the one with highest points all the way. Haha!

At the end of the day, I lost to the champion by one penalty but I was already very grateful. It was a great experience to be able to play with different good floorball players and to learn from them. But most of all, what I learn most is to see God’s faithfulness in our lives. Sometimes, a little prayer and faith is all we need. And to all Innebandy floorball players or of any sports, talents are given by God, be humble, do your best and God will definitely do the rest. One team, One way!=)

Friendly with Nanyang Technological University (NTU)

For the first time Innebandy received an invitation to play against a club all the way from Singapore. Of course, we being innebandiens felt honoured and privileged. And at the same time we were excited too and waited in anticipation of how it is like to be playing against a club that we have no idea of. Nevertheless we have an objective in mind! That is to learn something from this game.

Due to their short holiday in Penang, both manager from Innebandy and Contact agreed to combine for this friendly giving room for the state team to join the fun too. And there the "Con-bandy" team all geared up with their equipments with Inne taking the first and third line, and Contact taking the second and forth line. And for the first time Innebandiens playing on a full court and full time game our and of course bodies are certainly not ready for the fight. The thoughts of tiredness began to creeps into our mind and we are prepared to walk back home tired.

The game started after our cheer of "Char Koay Teow~!!!". The Singaporean surely had their Penang food hunt the last night. 1st period started off with our player felt kind of lost on court which allowed the Singaporeans having control of the whole game. That could be easily predicted as they are better in their skills and tactical play. Whereas for us, we wasted a lot of energy chasing for ball and men. Due to lack of experience playing on full court we were held captive by the Singaporeans. We did not play our game and we did not play up to the standard.

"Laksa~!!!" for the 2nd and 3rd period. Most of our players had light breakfast only and probably thinking of finishing the game fast and go for a good lunch instead. Some changes had been made to the lines and we tried to play out best. And yet....goal-less for Inne and we conceded a couple. It wasn't a good performance put up by us but there is always first time for everything. Hope that all the players gained some valuable experience playing on the actual size and time. The taste of real floorball!

On the other hand Contact has made significant appearance on court. With them scoring almost all of the goals to cover our shame.. Well done by their players from the ciku fellas up till the forties. The score ended up 7-5 with us lost to NTU. Truly the glory Innebandy achieved from this small little island could not be compared to the rest of the world. Another defeat which means another opportunity to work harder to achieve a better results when we see them on court again.

On behalf of Innebandy we would like to thank NTU for the invitation and the referees, Kuan Yang and Moy for taking your time for this game. And to Contact FireAnts, great teamwork! Looking forward to another partnership in the future.

That is not the end. The Penang girls/Juniors lost to NTU girls 4-1 and the State Team lost by merely by one goal of 2-1 to NTU once again.

Great floorball has been played by both teams and skills has been exchanged and knowledge of floorball gained and enlarged, and in addition friendships were built too through this simple friendly games. Objectives achieved! Keep the ball rolling~

We fight hard and we stay strong
never give up
