Vision 2012

Vision statement

To be an influencer and a role model (because that was what Jesus did on earth).

What does it mean to be an influencer?

From an online dictionary, it states, “The capacity or power of a person to be a compelling force on or produce effects on the actions, behavior, opinions, of other.”

Why do we want to be an influencer?

A role model can be an influencer but an influencer may not necessarily be a good role model. Influence can be out of admiration or out of fear. Your boss/superior may use their superiority to influence your decision and that may not be your preferred decision. BUT if you have someone you respect, admire and he/she might be the person you want to mirror, then your decision will be influence by him/her out of admiration. =)

How can we be an influencer?

Of course the hard part is how can one be an influencer and a role model? Well, have you all ever heard of this quote? “Foolish people never learn from their mistakes, smart people learn from their mistakes and wise people learn from history”. I think that’s pretty true fact.

The best person we can learn from is none other than Jesus. Do you think He has the traits and characteristics of an influencer and a good role model? Certainly yes!!! He has it because of His lifestyle, it’s not a daily thing, a weekly thing or a once in a while attitude. Its 24/7, every second of the day counts. How you live your life will affect people around you. That’s why we believe in the Inner Circle principle, you impact people around you and you help build your teammates to be more like you (If you’re good at what you do).

Jesus lived a life which is blameless and pure and how can that not be a role model for others? (Hebrews 4:15) This is insane! We learn our second IC from this, ‘Independent Culture’. Do you think Jesus’ mum has to nag Him to read the scriptures and pray every day? I doubt it, He did all this because He loves God and He is of his Father’s business (Luke 2:41-50). He has an objective and He is very focus and determine to achieve it, that is to save all mankind from judgments and that includes giving up His life for you and I. How can it be hard to be influence by someone who gave up his own dear life for you? I would feel inspired and motivated to obey Him because of what He has done for me.

A good role model is one who touches people’s life. That’s why one of the leadership styles we learn in college/university is “Charismatic leadership”. This group of people has what it takes to speak into people’s heart rather than mind. Of course there are many other ways to touch a person’s life.

And last of all, every good role model will have to sacrifice something along the way. It may not be your life like Jesus, but it may be your resources i.e time, money, etc. Giving up things to touch a person’s life may require Insane Courage because you may need to step out from your comfort zone. But it will be worth it at the end of the day. Look at the sacrifice Jesus made, look at the light He brought into the lives of individuals around the world and in our club. Man may fail you as a role model, I failed miserably as one, your parents may fail you, your friends too BUT Jesus will never fail you because He promised in His words that He will never leave you nor forsake you and He will be your helper. (Hebrews 13:5-6).

That is why, what and how we want Innebandiens to be…"an influencer and a role model."

This equation will help one be an influencer and role model. 3ICs + 7LOV = 1 LIV IC & I LOV3 C You should know what it means. =)

My challenge to you; try applying the 3ICs and the 7LOV in your life, doesn’t matter how old you are, what circumstances you’re in, etc because this set of principles are universal and applicable to every aspect/angle of your life. I pray that God will help you to achieve your fullest potential by being an influencer and role model for Him. Be a reflector and be the best you can in everything that you touch or do.

I believe Innebandy!Co together with your partnership will leave a great legacy behind because floorball is not just a game, it’s a new way of life. I’ll see you guys on court.

From the bottom of my heart,
Team Manager

PFL Div 1 2011

The Penang Floorball League, Division 1 has come to an end.

Innebandy!Co has fought through all 5 games to emerge as CHAMPIONS for the
Penang Floorball League Division 1 2011.

Here are some results and stats for our run in this year's PFL Div1.

Game 1: Innebandy!Co vs FireBRANDS (9-0)

Our first game was with the newly promoted FireBRANDS from Div2. The club consists of many speedy players and skillfull players, such as '2011 PFL Div1's All-Star' Gary Lee, '2011 KFSPP All-Star' Si Hoo Win Keat and many more. Most of them being also from the Penang Floorball State Development Team. Although some of us were a bit nervous, this being our first game of the league, we managed to finish the game with a win.

Game 2: Innebandy!Co vs Contact (9-2)

The '2010 PFL Div1 2nd Runner-Ups' have acquired a new signing this year, Chiam TerMin, giving other teams a warning for their intent of winning this year's league. Combining their new signing to a team of already experienced players such as Edward Lim, Don Shakir and other new recruits, Team Contact was prepared for a fight. The match was quite physical and was filled with brilliant plays by both teams. However, Innebandy!Co controlled the game from start to finish.

Game 3: Innebandy!Co vs Spearhead (11-1)

Spearhead Floorball Club, another newly promoted team from Div2, having players such as Christopher Koh, Henry Cheang, Syahmi and '2011 KFSPP All-Star' Calvin Lim. Another physical and fast team just like FireBRANDS, Spearhead was determined to prove their worth in Div1. Innebandy!Co maintained possession throughout the game and cruised with a win.

Game 4: Innebandy!Co vs Frontliners Spartans (13-1)

This was probably the most mentally challenging game throughout the league for Innebandy!Co.
With our key players, Deswyn Wan and Sam Teoh, unavailable due to work commitments, Innebandy!Co faced Frontliners Spartans. With a focused and a 'Quitting is Unthinkable' attitude, Innebandy!Co surprised everyone and proved that teamwork and focused minds can overcome even the greatest setbacks.

Game 5: Innebandy!Co vs Ztec Phoenix (8-3)

The title decider of 2011 PFL Div1. With Deswyn Wan and Sam Teoh having returned from their work, Innebandy!Co was once again in full force. Ztec Phoenix is one of the strongest sides in the league, having players such as Adrian Koay, Jack, Daniel Cheah and Jo-Wyee, who came all the way back from the United States. The most important game for Innebandy!Co and Ztec Phoenix. The win would determine the champion. Another physical and tactical match, Innebandy!Co developed great plays, fought the last game with all our hearts and pulled through to win.

Here are the statistics for Team Innebandy!Co in PFL Division 1 2011.

1) Bryan Looi (9+5=14)
2) Nicholes Ong (11+1=12)
3) Deswyn Wan (9+2=11)
4) Jason Chew (5+2=7)
5) David Kok (4+3=7)
6) Nicholas Teoh (3+4=7)
7) Timothy Kok (3+2=5)
8) Previn Mohan (3+1=4)
9) Sam Teoh (1+3=4)
10) Eric Wong (0+1=1)
11) Rooban Chand (0+1=1)
12) Kao Lin Ken (0+1=1)

What can I say about Sybrina? Well, she's one of the toughest innebabes in the club! Despite multiple sprains ankle she suffered she still comes for every training! Sam Teoh [Team Elite Coach] :
Radin the Alladin! Ok jokes aside. When I first met him he seems to be pretty soft on court. But now I believe he's stronger physically and mentally. He proved that he is worthy to be a "starter player" in LiveSTRONG during his short duration of training with the team and bagging a few goals in his debut for division 2 is very impressive. Continue to train hard and believe you will be in team Elite one day!

Farewell Address: Valerie Yentl Tan

It has been a pleasure to be playing for Innebandy!Co for 7 years. I still can remember the time when Innebandy!Co just started off. There was very few girl players and I was one of them. We were called Blazing Eagles at that time. Innebandy!Co has brought me up to be the Floorball player I am today. I’ve went through many ups and downs, especially during Wavechallenge (Girls’ category). Innebabes has never won any medals until the 3rd or 4th year of Wavechallenge. I’m very proud to be an Innebandian and Innebabe. As the years go on, many of the girls had to go off for further studies, leaving me the youngest girl player in the team back then. It was really sad that I could not compete in the girls category anymore. Nevertheless, I got the chance to train harder and played together with the boys. Throughout my 3/4 years in Innebandy!Co after Kao Cui Lin left, I was the last girl standing. It was until this year, more girls and boys started to join and stayed committed to Innebandy!Co .

I’m really glad to see the team growing in numbers and stronger physically and mentally every week. It’s a privilege to be part of this team. I truly appreciate everything and I want to thank Innebandy!Co for rising me up to be the Floorball player I am today. Thank you!

By the way, I’m currently studying in Curtin University of Sarawak. I’m taking Foundation in Engineering and Science. My course will last for 10 months. I hope to be back for Division 1, if possible. All the best to Division 2, Team LiveSTRONG and Innebabes and also to Division 1, Team Elite. God Bless.

Valerie.

Farewell Address: Ephraim Teh

Dear Innebandiens, I write this now with a heavier heart (and probably body) than i would have, should i have contrived to remain in Penang. In case any of you were wondering why I've suddenly disappeared from training, the answer is simple : I've decided to continue my studies in Curtin University, Miri, Sarawak. The place and people here are very good and "user-friendly" but that alone cannot fill the gaping hole in my heart where Floorball used to reside. You see, I really really really really really x 100000000 miss floorball! =( i think about floorball when i'm eating, whenever i lose focus in class(haha), before i sleep, and even in the bathroom. x) Anyway, the purpose I write to you is to encourage and urge you to continue pursuing the perfection of this game we all love. It's been a bit more than a week since I've last held my Canadien Rifle and it really feels like a part of me is missing. I also would like to remind you to uphold the 3IC's and to obey the 7 Laws of Victory in our endeavour to achieve greatness. =)

For those competing in the upcoming Penang League, regardless of Division, I ask that you would put in 200% into your training, both on and off the court, as part of your Independent Culture! As sick as this sounds, I actually miss the physicals we have fortnightly. Don't give up when the going seems tough! It's worth it to see that perfect pass arrive at your partner's blade, or to watch the ball whizz past the keeper(Lin Ken ;D) into the net. Few things exhilarate my mind and body more than the adrenaline pumping through my veins during a high-octane match. Playing floorball makes me feel more alive, if you understand what I mean.

Secondly, it is my hope that you would support one another, as we have done all these years together, regardless of the scoreline or situation. The Inner Circle is something unique of Innebandy!Co and it would not be complete without each and every individual link that makes up the entire team. From my personal experience, the little bit extra or the sudden boost that you need and long for in matches often comes from fellow Innebandiens. Confidence in your own ability, your team and your teammates is vital in floorball. Anyone can cheer the team on! Motivate your teammates, your friends! Please do not leave this responsibility on the shoulders of the senior players. Make a difference! Do your part for Innebandy!Co .

Also, this message wouldn't be complete without our X-factor, Insane Courage! As an Innebandien, it is NOT in our nature to give up. We do not lose heart no matter the opponent or the challenge. As an individual, this is also a priceless habit to cultivate. Just like the Kamikaze bombers, we strive on through the obstacles in our path. Of course I'm not endorsing suicide but if properly applied, this IC will earn us many a victory. I can remember countless situations in which all hope seemed lost, but through our dogged determination and our unwavering belief in both Innebandy!Co and ourselves, we pulled through as one. Set an example to others, laughter is contagious and I suppose Insane Courage is too. I urge you to try things you never imagined would work on court(within the rules, please) and you may be surprised with the outcome.

So while I may or may not have a tear in my eye as I wrap this up, I'm very thankful and glad that I have been part of this magnificent team for the past 7-8 years. I hope that YOU will rise up and not let a few individuals run the whole show but let it really be a TEAM game, where everybody plays an equally important role. My deepest regret is that I'm not able to train and compete with you all regularly anymore. I pray that you would not come to this point of your life and regret not being more involved with Innebandy. I'll miss singing the Inne song and proudly wearing the team name on my chest. I hope you all are well and trust me when I say that you all are constantly on my mind. Thank you ALL for the wonderful memories that I'll always cherish. Some good news though, my semester breaks are in a few months so, who knows? I just MAY be able to make it back for the last matches for Division 1. Muahahaha! =D For the Christians, continue to shine Christ's light wherever you go, including on court, and continue to use floorball as an evangelitical tool. Always depend on Him for without Him, we are nothing. Remember the true meaning of our motto when we say ONE TEAM, ONE WAY.

Until next time, Ephraim Teh

Anything you want to tell to the floorballers in Penang?
I think as team Innebandy!Co we can do better than what we are currently doing, and i hope in the future we can be the best floorball club in Penang, then in Malaysia. =) haha.

* Deswyn Wan has a message for the players of Team Innebandy!Co:

"First of all, congratulations and well done to the players who were selected for the 'P.o.M'. For those who have not been selected, do not be upset, disappointed or discouraged. There will be many more opportunities for you to be featured on the blog. Remember 'Quiting is Unthinkable'. Hope to see your name here one day
."

Desywn Wan [Team Livestrong coach] :
"I think she is the most 'kuai' player in our club. She pays 100% attention on what is being said, explained and taught. This makes her able to learn quickly. I think this trait should be duplicated by other players. Being the only girl in team Livestrong pushes her to be as tough as the other guys as well. She has the potential to be a top class player if she continues to train hard and practice the 3IC's. I'm hoping to see her name on the point chart this coming PFL Div 2."

Sam Teoh [Team Elite coach] :
"A player that impresses me by her determination and dedication to floorball even though she just started playing not long ago. A very committed player whether on or off court. Displays good attitude and has a teachable spirit. Congratulations 'Player of the Month' of February!"

*we are introducing a new segment to the P.o.M articles. we will be including comments from the coaches of Team Innebandy!Co to encourage the 'Players of the Month'.

Desywn Wan [Team Livestrong coach] :
"I look at him and I see a Lionel Messi (of floorball) in the making. I remembered coaching him with the basics when he just started and I am really impressed with his progress. He has grown so much in a short period of a year. Despite his small size and age, being only 13, he is definitely a threat to opponents because of his hunger for goals, his passion for the game, his courage and strength in his heart. His 'never give up' attitude makes him even tougher. If you watch him during physical training, he would try really hard to complete the whole track and that's just great to watch. That inspires me a lot. =) Keep it up boy!"

Sam Teoh [Team Elite coach] :
"A brave and fearless kid on court. Always daring to challenge senior players. A 'never say never' player. Definitely a player to watch out for when he mature more in the game. Congrats for being the 'Player of the Month' February 2011!"

INSPIRATIONAL NIKE AD 2010

Here's the thing that makes life so interesting: The Theory of Evolution claims that "only the strong shall survive". Maybe so, maybe so. But the Theory of Competition says "just because they're the strong doesn't mean they can't get their asses kicked". That's right. See, what every long shot come from behind underdog will tell you is this: The other guy may in fact be the favorite, the odds may be stacked against you. Fair enough... But what the odds don't know is this isn't a math test. This is a completely different kind of test. One where passion has a funny way of trumping logic. So before you step up to the starting line, before the whistle blows and the clock starts ticking, just remember: out here, the results don't always add up. No matter what the stats may say and the experts may think and the commentators may have predicted, when the race is on, all bets are off. Don't be surprised if someone decides to flip the script and take a pass on yelling "Uncle". And then suddenly, as the old saying goes, "We got ourselves a game" =)

Innebandy!Camp 2011: Camp Report

So here is a report of how the camp went. =)

The camp started off around 6pm with some icebreakers.
Since we had new players joining the camp for the first time, we first introduced ourselves by name and then proceeded to our first activity of the camp, the "Drop-the-blanket-then-shout-the-opposite-person's-name" game. =P
Led by Sam, the objective of this game was to memorize each of our new teammates name.
Split into two groups, guys and girls, the game began. The girls had an obvious advantage over the guys, thanks to the majority of them having chinese names. =D
There wasn't really a winner or loser, but there was definitely great loads of laughter.

After that icebreaker, we headed down to EAT !
Thanks to Nicholes Ong for buying the food and preparing the charcoal.
Thanks to Deswyn for cooking and watching the fire.
There was lots of food. Chicken, sausages, meatballs, pizza, "hand-chopped-salad" and "homemade garlic butter bread". Okay, umm, not alot in variety but plenty in quantity. =D
Everyone ate to their full.
Next the night session. Deswyn introduced the committee and announced the team captain for Innebandy!Co 2011. He then explained the 3ICs and 7LOVs. He also encouraged us to commit them to memory. The night then continued with more games and fun. Then came supper, then lights out.

The next morning started an "Americano Breakfast", consisting of bread, jam, biscuits and cups of milo. After breakfast, it was time for some TeamBuilding. The main goal of teambuilding is to encourage teamwork, perseverance and most importantly Insane Courage.
After a strainous workout and a nice shower, it was time to listen to the "Wise One".
Uncle James/Papa Looi headed this session and gave a deeper sharing on the 3ICs.
He shared how the 3ICs not only applied to floorball, but life in general.

After sharing, lunch, then more games! *points to Kon Joe*
He's the KILLER ! =P

So there it is. A short one day camp filled with plenty of fun, laughter and memories.
To all those who missed out on this year's camp,
Look forward to the next Innebandy!Camp
